"Hi Andrea, can I talk to you for a minute?" I said.

"Sure, Jared," she said. "What is it?"

"Well I wanted to tell you that I thought about what you said about how God doesn't exist and all, and I've decided that I think you're right."

"That's nice," she said. She sounded like she didn't care at all either way whether or not I believed in God!

"Anyway, I was wondering if you might want to go out with me on Friday night," I said.

She thought about it for a second. "Okay," she said.

"Great!" I said. "We could go out to dinner, then."

"Sounds like a good plan," she said. "Here let me give you my address and phone number." She got a piece of paper out of her backpack and started writing her address and phone number on it. Then she gave it to me. Oh, how I treasured that little paper!

"Shall I pick you up at six-thirty, then?" I asked.

"Sure," she said with a smile. "I'll see you then." And with that she continued on to her next class.

All I could think about all day at school on Friday was my big date that night. I was so excited! Normally I was lucky to maybe say one sentence to her if I happened to pass her in the hall. And now I would be able to spend the whole evening talking to her, and maybe more, I hoped.

When I got home from school I decided to take a shower. I had already taken a shower that morning so I probably didn't really need to do it again, but it seemed like a good way to kill time until it was time to go get her.

While I was in the shower I figured it was a good time to take care of some business to decrease the danger of getting too excited during the date. I knew that there was pretty much zero chance of going all the way that night, but there was no harm in imagining it.

EXMORMON

I got out of the shower and looked at myself in the mirror at the end of the hallway. I felt that I was a pretty handsome guy even if my opinion of it probably didn't count for anything. Luckily I'd never had any acne to speak of. Some guys had it so bad that it was disgusting even to look at them some days. I felt bad for guys like that because I couldn't imagine how they could ever get any girl to want to kiss them. Not that any girl had ever kissed me, but at least I figured it would possible for a girl to kiss me without being totally grossed-out.

I finished getting dressed and headed for the door. "Bye Mom" I said.

"Wait, let me get a look at you," Mom said. "So handsome! My baby is getting so grown-up!" I was so embarrassed! Luckily no one was around to hear that! "Have a nice time, and be sure to be back before midnight," she said.

"Thanks Mom, I will," I said, and I got in the car.

I drove to Andrea's house, and when I got there I went up to the door and rang the bell. Andrea answered the door herself. "Hi Jared," she said. She had her coat on already and was starting to walk out the door when a voice from inside the house said "Andrea, won't you invite your friend in for a moment?"

"Okay," she said. "Please come in." She went back inside the house. I followed her and closed the door behind myself. Andrea took off her coat, but she didn't hang it up or anything, she just held it. I did the same.
