Orem High
"Hi Andrea, can I talk to you for a minute?" I said.
"Sure, Jared," she said. "What is it?"
"Well I wanted to tell you that I thought about what you said about how God doesn't exist and all, and I've decided that I think you're right."
"That's nice," she said. She sounded like she didn't care at all either way whether or not I believed in God!
"Anyway, I was wondering if you might want to go out with me on Friday night," I said.
She thought about it for a second. "Okay," she said.
"Great!" I said. "We could go out to dinner, then."
"Sounds like a good plan," she said. "Here let me give you my address and phone number." She got a piece of paper out of her backpack and started writing her address and phone number on it. Then she gave it to me. Oh, how I treasured that little paper!
"Shall I pick you up at six-thirty, then?" I asked.
"Sure," she said with a smile. "I'll see you then." And with that she continued on to her next class.
All I could think about all day at school on Friday was my big date that night. I was so excited! Normally I was lucky to maybe say one sentence to her if I happened to pass her in the hall. And now I would be able to spend the whole evening talking to her, and maybe more, I hoped.
When I got home from school I decided to take a shower. I had already taken a shower that morning so I probably didn't really need to do it again, but it seemed like a good way to kill time until it was time to go get her.
While I was in the shower I figured it was a good time to take care of some business to decrease the danger of getting too excited during the date. I knew that there was pretty much zero chance of going all the way that night, but there was no harm in imagining it.
