Youth Conference
Great, he just asked me to dance in order to kill time until his fabulous dance with Lara. I wanted to go crawl under a rock, but I consoled myself with the fact that this dance meant that at the end of the night at least I wouldn't have to tell the other girls that I hadn't been asked to dance at all.
When the song ended, I went and found Amy to ask her how her dance went.
"Great," she said, "his name is Greg, and he seems to like me. He said that his friend who was dancing with you is in love with Lara, though."
"Yeah, I noticed," I said.
"Oh, well, there are plenty of other guys here."
Greg then walked up to Amy with two cups of punch and handed her one. I could see Tom bringing me one, too, but since he was undoubtedly just doing it out of politeness since his friend was interested in Amy, I wasn't too impressed by the gesture. I accepted the punch gracefully, but at my earliest opportunity I slipped away saying I had to check my hair in the bathroom. Tom was gazing across at Lara and didn't try to stop me.
April was in the bathroom with Alexandra and Cookie, all three of them discussing some guy from Ely that Alexandra had met and danced with. I gave my hair a quick once-over and then asked the other girls to tell Amy that I was tired and had decided to leave early.
"I'd tell her myself, but she's with some guy she she seems to like, and I'm avoiding the guy's friend," I said.
"Ah, she ran off and stuck you with the ugly one, huh? Poor abandoned Lynn!" said Cookie.
"Something like that."
"Don't worry, you'll find someone tomorrow," April said encouragingly.
