Youth Conference
I got back to my picture of Y and was about to maybe start writing in my journal when Amy finally arrived.
"So how'd it go?" I asked her as soon as she was inside with the door closed. "Are you in love?"
"Not like with Z," she replied, "but I'm starting to like him. After you left, there were only three more songs, so you hardly needed to leave early. Tom would have left you soon enough to claim his dance with Lara."
"I know," I said. "It's a tiny little gesture, but I kind of wanted to reject him first. So tell me about Greg."
"You were wise -- I didn't get off so easily. Shortly after you left, Lara stopped by to encourage Tom with a few words before rejoining her other admirers, and when the last dance was announced, Tom immediately rushed to her side. She remembered her obligation to dance with him, and as a treat to Greg, she convinced Kimberly to ask him to dance the last dance with her. From what Greg was telling me, he and Tom go to the same high school as Kimberly and Lara, and Kimberly and Lara are two of the most popular girls in the school, so of course he couldn't pass up his opportunity to dance with Kimberly. I was left with the fun of being a wallflower for the last dance of the night."
"So they're both non-members?" I asked.
"Yeah, but they've met with the missionaries and they're taking the discussions. Apparently Greg is a little leery about the whole thing since he's an atheist, but he says that Tom has been terribly enthusiastic about it. He's told Greg that he's starting to feel the truth of the message, but it seems suspiciously linked to the fact that Lara gives him the time of day exactly when he's talking about how interested he is in the church."
